Hours: 07:30-17:00 Monday to Friday with ½ for lunch
Role Objective:
To provide day to day commercial support to the project team, maintaining commercial information, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements and ensuring the company’s objectives are achieved.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide support to the project teams to ensure commercial and contractual compliance of projects
- Review contract conditions, agree recommendations with the commercial team and negotiate amendments to documentation with clients and sub-contractors
- Produce and submit monthly applications for approval
- Preparation and analysis of costings for tenders
- Estimating and collation of project variation works, including day works
- Preparation of interim valuations and payment applications
- Assist the Contracts Engineers with monthly project cost reports
- Liaise with the client and other construction professionals, such as Site Managers, Architects, Contract Managers and Site Engineers to ensure projects run to budget, schedule and comply with Health and Safety procedures
- Compile and analyse relevant documentation and reports (e.g. budget reviews, financial reports and forecasts) to attend and participate in site meetings, management meetings, financial and performance reviews
- Undertake site visits to assess the progress of works and identify any positive or negative elements that may affect company performance and offer solutions
- Provide support to the Contract Managers with variation of costs, ensuring they are recorded, produced and submitted to the client, including any contract additions
- Provide assistance to the Contract Managers with negotiation of project final accounts
- Preparation of final accounts, to include approval of all contract documentation and orders prior to finalisation
- Timely preparation of interim valuation/payment applications and respond to payment queries promptly
- Advise on legal and contractual issues
- Be aware, understand and champion the company’s Health and Safety procedures
- Ensure compliance with company procedures and policies
- Maintain awareness of the different building contracts in current use
- Contribute to the overall running and continuous improvement of the business, ensuring the highest professional standards are maintained to continually improve the service provided by the company
- Develop future talent, providing training, coaching and support to enable progression
- Undertake staff appraisals and staff development as agreed with the Senior Quantity Surveyor
- All other Quantity Surveyor and compliance related duties as determined reasonable by the needs of the business
Person Specification:
- Degree accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) in Quantity Surveying
- Very strong numerical skills
- A good working knowledge of MS Excel
- IT literate – comfortable with new technology and a digital approach, well-disciplined when it comes to electronic filing
- Capable planner and organiser, with a proven track record of delivering results based on a quality focus
- Knowledge and skills to analyse and solve in-depth problems and execute appropriate actions
- People smart: has the ability to work cooperatively with others in groups, as well as the ability to communicate, verbally and non-verbally with others
- Good customer service skills, with a definitive focus on customer satisfaction
- A collaborative team player, who is comfortable managing both internal teams and external contractors
- A proven background in forging and maintaining key relationships
- Clear and confident with written and verbal communication
