WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
Wheeler’s has been trusted to carry out exceptional plumbing and heating work across Wiltshire, Somerset and the surrounding counties since 1982.
Founded as a family business and now an Employee Owned Trust with over 120 staff, we’ve delivered more than £250 million worth of projects large and small, while staying unwaveringly true to our principles: clear pricing, dependable engineers, and a service built around the customer.
That’s probably why we’ve remained the first choice for anyone in the area who needs help with a project, a plumbing repair or ongoing maintenance on their domestic or commercial property. We like to make sure you know what to expect from us when you call us in to help with any plumbing and heating problems, so we’ve put together a list of answers to the questions our customers ask most often, covering pricing, emergency response, servicing and landlord support.
If your question isn’t asked and answered among those featured below, just get in touch and we’ll happily talk you through it.
The cost of plumbing and heating work depends on the nature of the job, the complexity involved, the time required and any materials or replacement parts needed. Wheeler’s offers both fixed-price quotations and hourly rate options depending on the work being undertaken. Survey visits are provided free of charge and all costs are explained before work begins. During normal working hours there is no call-out fee, although a minimum labour charge may apply. We pride ourselves on transparent pricing with no hidden costs.
Subject to engineer availability, we always endeavour to assist with urgent plumbing and heating issues and will try to reallocate resources where possible to help customers in need. Our team prioritises emergencies based on severity and potential risk. If safe to do so, customers should isolate the water supply in the event of a significant leak and provide as much information as possible when contacting us.
Wherever possible, we aim to minimise disruption. Some plumbing and heating work may require a temporary interruption to water or heating supplies, but our engineers will explain this beforehand and keep downtime to a minimum. Once the work is complete, systems are fully tested and commissioned where necessary to ensure everything is operating safely and correctly before we leave.
Most boiler manufacturers recommend annual servicing to help ensure safe and efficient operation. Regular servicing can help maintain manufacturer warranties, improve reliability, reduce the likelihood of breakdowns and identify developing issues before they become costly repairs. Wheeler’s can also provide service reminders by email or telephone to help customers stay on schedule.
A well-maintained boiler can often operate more efficiently than one that has been neglected, although the level of savings will vary depending on the age, condition and usage of the appliance. Regular servicing helps ensure the boiler is operating safely, efficiently and reliably while identifying potential faults before they develop into larger problems.
A boiler service provides an assessment of the boiler’s safety, operation and condition at the time of inspection, but it cannot predict every future fault. If a problem develops after a service, customers should contact our team and we will investigate the issue promptly. Any concerns relating to workmanship will be addressed professionally and fairly, and we will work with you to find a suitable resolution.
