SAFETY ASSESSMENTS
For more than 50+ years Wheeler’s has been a well-known, respected name in north west Wiltshire, synonymous with delivering the highest quality electrical services in the region.
Whether you want an extra electrical socket fitted or a whole property re-wired, we’ll get the job done professionally, efficiently and affordably.
Our team of qualified NICEIC approved electricians, assisted by a group of talented apprentice electricians, carry out general electrical work for homeowners, business owners and managers, as well as landlords who want new electrical installations, upgrades, improvements or repairs. We also deliver electrical services under contract to architects, consultants, developers, property managers, construction companies and many more long-standing clients.
Our NICEIC registered electricians are competent to carry out PAT (Portable Appliance Testing) – an important regularly scheduled function that helps prevent electrical accidents.
Essentially it is the inspection and testing of any electrical item that can be moved and is connected to the mains supply via a plug point.
PAT Testing is not required by law, but the Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 state that electrical equipment must be maintained in a safe condition. PAT Testing is the most common, practical and efficient way to fulfil this legal obligation, particularly for employers in all sorts of workplaces and landlords who must ensure the safety of the appliances in their rental properties. Private homeowners are also strongly advised to make sure their appliances are periodically tested to assess their safety.
We carry out PAT Testing across north Wiltshire and North East Somerset in a wide range of environments, such as commercial premises, rental properties and HMOs, construction sites, schools, healthcare facilities, hospitality venues, public buildings and many more.
The frequency of PAT testing depends on the type of equipment, how often its used and the environment it is used in. For example construction tools may need to be tested every three to six months, while office equipment may only need testing every one or two years. We can advise you on the appropriate testing intervals for your business or organisation.
PAT Testing typically includes the following steps:
This is the most important part of the process and checks for:
Depending on the appliance, this may include:
Each appliance is assessed based on its class, usage and environment.
We test everything from desktop computers and printers to kettles, fans and vacuum cleaners. Failing a PAT test could be down to frayed or damaged cables, cracked plugs or casings, internal wiring faults, overheating or a missing earth connection. Failed items are labelled as such and should be removed from service for repair or replacement.
